About the Role

The Professional Nurse/Clinical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised, holistic, and person-centred nursing care for patients, their families, or the community. They coordinate patient care within a multidisciplinary health team, using scientifically based nursing theories and processes.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a clinical resource for nursing care.
• Ensure communication and interaction with family and health professionals regarding patient care.
• Assess, plan, and implement advanced nursing care in a specialised field.
• Initiate, direct, and maintain emergency treatment as indicated.
• Interview patients and families to obtain relevant information and assess needs.
• Participate in the multi-disciplinary team to evaluate, develop, and implement health care plans.
• Prepare documentation reflecting patient status, staff ratio, and problems.
• Communicate with the unit manager regarding activities and problems.
• Provide input and standards for patient care policy and procedures.
• Ensure a safe, clean, and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
• Co-operate with other departments to provide appropriate support services.
• Coordinate with the Clinical Facilitation Department for staff and patient education.
• Allocate staff members to provide appropriate nursing care for individual patients.
• Maintain a satisfactory level of skill and knowledge through professional development.
• Work effectively with others to establish and maintain good working relationships.
• Implement medical technologies, digitisation, and data solutions for the benefit of the business and patients.

Inherent Requirements

• Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
• Thorough knowledge of general/specialised nursing theory and practice.
• Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices.
