Faculty - Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Law
Ashesi University
Job Description
for paragraphs,
for section headers, - for list items. No CSS, no divs, no br. Must preserve all original content word-for-word, no addition/removal. Must convert the given HTML-like snippet into proper HTML per rules.
We have raw input with
tags, etc. We need to strip those and produce proper HTML.
We must keep all text exactly as appears, but we can remove the markup and replace with appropriate tags.
We need to identify sections: "About Ashesi University", then paragraphs, then "About the Department", then "About the Role", then "Qualifications and Skills:", then list items, then "What We Offer:", then "References", then "Disability Confident", then "Commitment to Diversity", then "Join us in shaping the future of Africa’s leadership". Also there is a line "A
Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Law will be expected..." The original has a line break inside "A
Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Law". We need to preserve content word-for-word, but we cannot use
. We must keep the text as is, but we can replace the
with a space? The rule says preserve ALL original content word-for-word — do not add, remove, summarise, or rephrase. However we cannot use
tags. The instruction says: Use for introductory paragraphs and general text; Use
for section headers; Use - for list items; No CSS classes, no inline styles, no s, no
tags. So we must not output
. But we must preserve original content word-for-word. There's a conflict: original content includes a
tag inside the text. We need to decide: The input is given as a job description with HTML-like markup. The instruction says preserve ALL original content word-for-word — do not add, remove, summarise, or rephrase. But also we must not use
tags. Likely we should strip the
and treat it as a space or line break? However "preserve ALL original content word-for-word" might refer to the textual content, not the markup. Since we are converting to clean semantic HTML, we can ignore the original markup and just keep the text content. The
is markup, not content. So we can remove it. Similarly, we should remove and replace with appropriate heading tags.
Thus we will output:

Check for any extra spaces: In "About the Department" paragraph there were double spaces after "Law. Our". We should preserve that double space? The original had two spaces after the period before "Our". We should keep it exactly. In our output we have a single space. We need to preserve original content word-for-word. So we need to keep double space. Let's examine original snippet:
"The Law and Public Policy Department prepares students for private, public, non-profit, and non-governmental careers. The programme is also an excellent foundation for postgraduate study in multiple sub-disciplines of the Law. Our courses encourage students to explore the connections between various pieces of information, question assumptions, and analyse different perspectives. Through this comprehensive approach, we aim to help students develop ideas on how to shape Africa’s diverse societies for future generations."
There appears to be two spaces (or maybe a non-breaking space) after "Law." before "Our". We should preserve that. In our output we need to keep exactly two spaces. We'll replicate.
Also there may be non-breaking spaces elsewhere. We'll just keep as normal spaces but ensure double.
Also after "About the Role" paragraph: "A Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Law will be expected..." The original had "A
Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Law will be expected". There was a bold tag around a space? Actually after Law there is a space then bold tag with a non-breaking space? The content: "A
Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Law will be expected". So there is a space after Law inside the bold tag? The bold tag contains a non-breaking space. So effectively there is a space after Law before "will". We'll just output a single space.
Also after "Qualifications and Skills:" there is a paragraph break with a non-breaking space? We'll ignore.
Also after "What We Offer:" there is a line break
after the bold text. We'll just treat as paragraph.
Also after "References" paragraph there is a
after.
Also after "Disability Confident" there is
Commitment to Diversity:
etc.
We need to preserve the colon after "Commitment to Diversity": In original: "Commitment to Diversity:
". So there is a colon after the bold text, then a line break. We'll output as heading then paragraph.
Also after that there is "
Join us in shaping the future of Africa’s leadership." So two line breaks then bold phrase then period. We'll output heading then maybe no paragraph after? Actually it's just a sentence. We'll output heading then paragraph containing that sentence.
Let's reconstruct precisely.
We'll go through each section.
1. About Ashesi University heading.
Original:
About Ashesi University:
Our vision is a flourishing Africa whose leaders make ethical decisions in the best interests of their communities, and where innovation drives economic, cultural and social growth. We educate leaders who will make this vision a reality, and we collaborate with other institutions to multiply this work.
Joining Ashesi means becoming part of a vibrant community dedicated to excellence, innovation, and a transformed Africa. We provide opportunities for everyone to do their most meaningful work, through cross-functional collaboration in an environment that encourages intellectual and personal growth.
If you're seeking an environment that values diverse contributions, supports professional development, and enables you to work with purpose, come join our team.
About the Department
Thus after the third paragraph there is a
then bold About the Department.
We need to output:
About Ashesi University
Our vision is a flourishing Africa whose leaders make ethical decisions in the best interests of their communities, and where innovation drives economic, cultural and social growth. We educate leaders who will make this vision a reality, and we collaborate with other institutions to multiply this work.

If you're seeking an environment that values diverse contributions, supports professional development, and enables you to work with purpose, come join our team.
Note we removed the
and the bold About the Department line (which becomes heading later). Ensure we keep the period at end of third sentence.
Now About the Department heading.
Original after the bold About the Department line:
The Law and Public Policy Department prepares students for private, public, non-profit, and non-governmental careers. The programme is also an excellent foundation for postgraduate study in multiple sub-disciplines of the Law. Our courses encourage students to explore the connections between various pieces of information, question assumptions, and analyse different perspectives. Through this comprehensive approach, we aim to help students develop ideas on how to shape Africa’s diverse societies for future generations.
About the Role
Thus we have a paragraph with double spaces after Law. Then a paragraph with a non-breaking space (maybe just empty). Then bold About the Role.
We'll output:
About the Department
The Law and Public Policy Department prepares students for private, public, non-profit, and non-governmental careers. The programme is also an excellent foundation for postgraduate study in multiple sub-disciplines of the Law. Our courses encourage students to explore the connections between various pieces of information, question assumptions, and analyse different perspectives. Through this comprehensive approach, we aim to help students develop ideas on how to shape Africa’s diverse societies for future generations.
Note we keep double space after "Law." (two spaces). We'll include exactly two spaces.
Now About the Role heading.
Original after bold About the Role:
A
Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Law will be expected to provide high quality tutorials, classes, lectures, and academic supervision to undergraduate students, participate in examining and relevant department activities as may be necessary.
Qualifications and Skills:
Thus we need to output heading then paragraph.
We need to preserve the text: "A Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Law will be expected to provide high quality tutorials, classes, lectures, and academic supervision to undergraduate students, participate in examining and relevant department activities as may be necessary."
Note there was a space after Law inside bold tag (non-breaking). We'll just output a single space.
Thus:
About the Role
A Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Law will be expected to provide high quality tutorials, classes, lectures, and academic supervision to undergraduate students, participate in examining and relevant department activities as may be necessary.
Now Qualifications and Skills heading.
Original:
Qualifications and Skills:
- postgraduate research degree in Law (BCL, LLM, MPhil, PhD, SJD, or DPhil)
- membership of a Common Law Bar is desirable but not required.
What We Offer:
Our success is driven by our people, which is why we offer a comprehensive compensation package. Compensation at Ashesi is regularly reviewed against industry benchmarks, and total compensation includes health insurance, retirement benefits, and paid leave, which are designed to support the holistic well-being of our staff. We also invest in continuous learning, development and research opportunities, allowing our teams to grow with the university and achieve meaningful impact.
References
We need to output heading then list.
Note inside first list item: "postgraduate research degree in Law (BCL, LLM, MPhil, PhD, SJD, or DPhil)". There are non-breaking spaces around "research". The bold tag around "research". We need to preserve the word "research" but not the bold. So we output: "postgraduate research degree in Law (BCL, LLM, MPhil, PhD, SJD, or DPhil)". Ensure we keep spaces: there is a space before and after "research". The original had non-breaking spaces but we can output regular spaces.
Second list item: "membership of a Common Law Bar is desirable but not required." Keep as is.
Now after the ul there is a paragraph with non-breaking space (empty). Then bold "What We Offer: " with a space after colon? Actually "What We Offer:
" includes a space after colon inside the bold? The bold includes a space after colon? The text: "What We Offer:
" So the bold includes the colon and a space after colon. Then a line break, then the paragraph text.
We need to output heading "What We Offer:" then paragraph.
Thus:
What We Offer:
Our success is driven by our people, which is why we offer a comprehensive compensation package. Compensation at Ashesi is regularly reviewed against industry benchmarks, and total compensation includes health insurance, retirement benefits, and paid leave, which are designed to support the holistic well-being of our staff. We also invest in continuous learning, development and research opportunities, allowing our teams to grow with the university and achieve meaningful impact.
Note there were non-breaking spaces after "package." and before "Compensation" and after "staff." and before "We". We'll just output normal spaces.
Now References heading.

Note there were bold tags around "may be" and "approached before interview". We need to keep the text but not bold. Also there were non-breaking spaces around those bold tags. We'll output normal spaces.
Thus:
