Job Description and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Health, Nutrition & IPC Manager, the Health and Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, ensuring the technical quality, and implementing the Health and Nutrition components of the KINGA MAISHA project.
He/She is responsible for planning, operational coordination, technical supervision, performance monitoring, and quality assurance of health and nutrition interventions, ensuring they comply with Save the Children standards, national Ministry of Health policies, WHO guidelines, relevant humanitarian standards, and donor requirements.
He/She works closely with program, MEAL, supply chain, finance, awards, protection, WASH, education, and other relevant sectors to ensure an integrated and child-centered approach.
He/She also provides technical support for needs identification, proposal development, budget preparation, result tracking, and representation of Save the Children to health authorities, clusters, and partners.
In case of a major humanitarian emergency, the post holder may need to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Role dimensions: Direct implementation of health and nutrition activities in the health zones of LITA, FATAKI, KOMANDA, and GETTY
Principal Areas of Responsibility
Coordination and Program Planning
- Lead operational planning of Health and Nutrition activities.
- Develop and update work plans, activity plans, and implementation calendars.
- Ensure coherence between activities, expected results, indicators, and project budget.
- Coordinate regularly with program, MEAL, finance, supply chain, and awards teams.
- Identify and address delays, constraints, and risks affecting implementation.
- Propose and track corrective measures.
- Coordinate activities between different intervention zones.
- Ensure integration of cross-cutting approaches, including child safeguarding, gender, inclusion, accountability to affected populations, and PSEA.
Health Component
- Ensure technical quality of health interventions, including:
- Primary health care
- Maternal, neonatal, and infant health
- Sexual and reproductive health
- Child health and immunization
- Epidemic surveillance and preparedness
Nutrition Component
- Supervise the implementation of nutrition prevention and treatment activities.
- Support community-based malnutrition screening.
- Ensure quality malnutrition treatment according to national protocols.
- Strengthen nutrition-health integration.
- Support infant and young child feeding (IYCF) interventions.
- Promote malnutrition prevention among children under five.
- Ensure quality of nutrition education and promotion activities.
- Support capacity building of service providers and community agents.
- Collaborate with WASH, protection, and health teams for a multisectoral nutrition approach.
Collaboration with Community Mobilization Responsible and MEAL of the Project
- Contribute to baseline assessments and ensure SSR components are considered.
- Contribute to the design of health and nutrition data collection tools, considering donor indicators and MSP tools.
- Contribute to documentation and management of lessons learned.
Child Protection Policy
- Report all allegations and cases of CP in accordance with local procedures.
- Alert any suspicion of CP cases in accordance with the reporting policy.
- Participate in investigations of allegations and CP cases under the instruction of the Country Director.
- Report cases of partners and other implementing parties who are not trained on CP to the CP Focal Points (CP FPs) and contribute to training efforts.
- Contribute to the identification and analysis of initial and emerging CP risks within their sectors and domains of work.
- Detect and report any suspected abuse cases involving beneficiaries and other children and take appropriate measures according to SC's Protection Policy.
Qualifications
Essential
- Medical degree and registration with the National Order of Doctors (CNOM)
- University degree (minimum Master's/Bachelor's) in public health
- Minimum two years of professional experience in health and nutrition program implementation, including experience in a humanitarian or emergency context.
- Ability to work in a health emergency context (Ebola) and strictly follow infection prevention and control (IPC) measures.
- Excellent written and spoken French.
- Availability for frequent travel and residence in intervention zones.
- Knowledge of the Ituri Province context and local community dynamics.
- Knowledge of Swahili or other relevant local languages.
Experience and Competencies
Essential
- At least three years of professional experience in health and nutrition, with at least two years of proven experience in humanitarian project management.
- Proficiency in French and good knowledge of English.
- Proficiency in computer tools: Word/Excel/Power Point, etc.
Desirable
- Proven experience in donor report writing.
- Experience in writing proposals to donors.
