Absa Bank Limited (Absa) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Barclays Africa Group Limited. The bank provides a wide range of financial services including personal and business banking, credit cards, corporate and investment banking, wealth and investment management, and bancassurance solutions.
Barclays Africa Group Limited is 62.3% owned by Barclays Bank PLC and is listed on the JSE Limited. The Group is one of Africa’s leading financial services providers, offering comprehensive banking and financial products to individuals, businesses, and corporate clients.
The Group was formed through the combination of Absa Group Limited and Barclays’ African operations on 31 July 2013. Reflecting its expanded pan-African presence, the Group changed its name from Absa Group Limited to Barclays Africa Group Limited on 2 August 2013.
The Group’s registered head offices are located in South Africa. It holds majority stakes in banks across several African countries including Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
The Group also maintains representative offices in Namibia and Nigeria, and runs bancassurance operations in Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, and Zambia. Meanwhile, Barclays Bank Kenya and Barclays Bank Botswana continue to be listed on their respective stock exchanges.
Barclays Bank PLC also operates in Egypt and Zimbabwe as part of its broader African operations, which are managed by the leadership of Barclays Africa Group Limited.
