Job Description and Responsibilities

Reports to: Project Officer - Education

Role definition: To ensure effectiveness of Strengthening Transferable Skills, Resilience and Inclusive Development in Education and TVET) in the Districts of Moroto, Napak, Abim, Nakapiripirit, Amudat, Kaabong, Karenga, Kotido and Nabilatouk.

Key Result Areas

Project planning and implementation

  • Plan and coordinate all sub county and district based project activities
  • Plan and implement school based project activities
  • Develop activity concepts
  • Organize meetings and workshops
  • Track and manage activity budgets
  • Produce reports
  • Participate in project management meetings
  • Support and participate in district education Advocacy initiatives
  • Conduct capacity needs assessment
  • Develop a capacity building plan
  • Mobilization of and conducting trainings
  • Provide mentoring and coaching
  • Build Local Level Peer mentoring mechanism
  • Identify technical experts
  • Build linkages, relations, collaborations and networks
  • Support development of school improvement plans
  • Participation in sub county coordination meetings
  • Organize periodic partner and stakeholder monitoring visits
  • Organize teachers and literacy volunteers’ fora
  • Participate and represent WVU in key technical working forums
  • Conduct support supervision and mentoring sessions
  • Facilitate formation of children network/peer networks
  • Support schools to have classroom print rich materials

Technical support and training

  • Develop a district capacity building plan
  • Mobilization of and conducting trainings
  • Provide mentoring and coaching
  • Identify technical experts
  • Liaise with the Project Manager for technical support
  • Support the collection, documentation, & Reporting of children’s impact and success stories
  • Facilitate establishment of child development and participation

Partnership and networking

  • Identify and build linkages, relations, collaborations and networks
  • Mobilization of teachers and parents for project activities
  • Participate and represent WVU in key technical working forums
  • Point of contact for consultation on issues to do with project education programming
  • Conduct advocacy campaigns for education in general

Strengthening the Field Operating Model through Community Volunteer Associations

  • Support the formation, mentoring, and functionality of the Community Volunteers Associations
  • Building capacities of the Community Volunteers, youths, and Children committees
  • Facilitate and mentor PTAS/SMCs and BOGs

Documentation and Reporting

  • Conduct community mapping and peer group mapping
  • Effectively document all information related to Education in Emergencies in schools
  • Responsible for documenting individual children’s vulnerabilities
  • Document good practices and project success stories and share them

Knowledge/Qualifications for the Role

  • A Minimum of a Bachelors Degree of Education with bias of primary discipline
  • A Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Education management and working with different UN agencies
  • A Minimum of 2 years’ experience in community work and engagement with Sponsorship agencies
  • Must be Computer literate
  • Writing and reporting skills
  • Ability to communicate in applicable local language(s)
  • Passion for children
  • Track record demonstrating high integrity, reliability, and dependability
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Networking and influencing skills
  • Partnership and Collaboration Skills
  • Child Protection skills
  • Pedagogical knowledge and skills
  • Must be a committed Christian and an active member of the Church
  • Must be able to RIDE with a Valid Riding License attached to this application
  • School management and /or mentorship of teachers
  • Experience working with communities and teachers
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
